Hampden County Mentoring

Giving time and attention to a young person brings positive outcomes for youth and incredible satisfaction to their mentors! By mentoring, you can help a young person through their next phase in life and help them with both their successes and challenges.

Perhaps you’d like to become a mentor or you’re looking for someone to mentor your young person. Maybe your life brought challenges and experiences you had to learn how to overcome and now you’d like to pay it forward with youth from your community. Consider the growing trend of peer group mentoring and mentor a small group of youth through programs offered at your local youth serving organizations. Or volunteer to be a traditional 1-on-1 mentor. All forms of mentoring are encouraged and will improve the life of a young person! Learn more about mentoring.

Join our Peer Mentoring Collaborative!

The Hampden County Health Improvement Plan (HCHIP) started the Mentoring Movement three years ago and has funded the Mentor campaign! Now, the baton has been passed to the Springfield Youth Mental Health Coalition (YMHC). The YMHC invites you to be a part of the Peer Mentoring Collaborative. Our goal is to create a network of support for young people in Springfield and to elevate mentoring opportunities and resources in Hampden County.

The YMHC’s Peer Mentoring Collaborative represents mentoring and youth serving organizations within Hampden County. A small workgroup meets quarterly to work towards innovative strategies that will decrease barriers to successful mentoring relationships and increase youth mentor opportunities. The Collaborative will also offer cohesive trainings and workshops widely across Hampden County that address mental health awareness and other needs realized within youth-serving organizations.
